This story about a 4-year old killing his 3-year old sister with a handgun lying around the house might seem like just another tragedy in a nation awash in guns. I am imagining the NRA’s spin on the incident: The 3-year old was obviously doing something terribly aggravating to the 4-year old – such as stealing a crayon and threatening to take the 4-year old’s cookie. The 4-year old was simply exercising his right – a God-given, 2nd Amendment right – to defend his property. If the 3-year old had any sense, she would have been armed as well, exercising her God-given, 2nd Amendment right to bear arms. There would then have been a stand-off between two equally-deadly citizens, resulting in no one getting hurt, or perhaps only critically wounded.
