Watching the rage-distorted faces of the right-wing ignorati spouting, automaton-like, the blatant falsehoods (e.g., “death panels”) concocted by their “leaders” in Congress and the conservative media in their efforts to derail healthcare reform, I conceived a sort of “social physics maxim” to describe this phenomenon:
In a charged atmosphere, lies and misinformation travel at a greater velocity than facts and truth.
Let’s call this “Rantcaster’s First Law of Social Physics”
The Second Law of Social Physics is that the perpetrators of the first law (e.g., Sarah Palin, Charles Grassley, media airheads like Limbaugh, Hannity et al) will ultimately be defeated / destroyed by the backlash from the vast majority of the electorate who have the brains to filter out the lies (see “Thanks but No Thanks on the Bridge to Nowhere”, “WMD in Iraq”, etc.) and let the truth shine through.
