Any day now, we will read the article in the daily newspaper about George W.
Bush’s epiphany on Iraq: his decision to clear the decks of the right-wing
idealogues and inept sycophants in his administration, craft a humble
apology to the American people – and the people of Iraq – and redirect his
energy over the remaining years of his Presidency towards energy
independence, deficit reduction, education, affordable healthcare and the repairing of our damaged alliances around the world. The article will send the stock market soaring,
and motivate millions to dance in the streets in a paroxysm of joy and
relief that our President has finally seen the light.
But, alas, this article will be revealed as a plant by a journalist
channeling the public’s desperate wish for a different reality than the one
we have been dealt by the Bush White House. But it’s worth a try, isn’t it?
