The contrast could not have been more stark: a Supreme Court nominee with a sterling, decades-long record of faithful, diligent adherence to the application of the law, viciously attacked for a few out-of-context remarks by a gang of Republican senators who religiously and unwaveringly spout conservative talking points, but whose careers have been a nearly continuous litany of failure, incompetence and hypocrisy. “Do as I say, not as I do”: this is the sordid character of the GOP leadership that has been roundly rejected by the American people. I am disgusted by this display of arrogance from political hacks whose performance, and contribution to the public welfare, cannot hold a candle to that of Ms. Sotomayor.
I agree.
I’ve looked at Judge Sotomayor’s record and decided that I back her. She might not share my exact judicial philosophy, but hers is acceptable, and the fact is that elections have consequences.
The Republicans are afraid of talk radio, methinks. The blabbering class has drummed up their flocks into a dither about who Judge Sotomayor hates the Constitution, hates white people, and whatever else. The Republicans don’t have the guts to stand up to the shock jocks, so they’re playing to that base.
… And it is base.
I wish the future Justice Sotomayor the best and look forward to seeing what she will do on the Court.
